Why I Became a Member
“I love Manito Park because it brought me peace when I moved from Arizona. I remember happening upon the park in late August and parking outside the Perennial Garden. I was in awe. I made my way up to the rose garden and my jaw dropped even further. I had no idea Duncan Gardens was just around the corner. When I approached it, I nearly wept. How could a little city maintain something so beautiful? Manito Park is truly a jewel and I enjoy so many evenings here while watching my children play, or gathering with friends. This is why I’m a member of The Friends of Manito.”
— Kelly Brown
“I love Manito Park because it is such a gem. Just like so many other Spokanites, I take visitors to see Manito first because I am proud to show it off to them. I love strolling through the Ferris perennial gardens, Duncan gardens, the Japanese garden and Rose Hill to surround myself with beauty while getting inspiration for my own garden. As a member of the Friends of Manito, I enjoy attending the many interesting lectures and getting a discount at their fabulous plant sales. But above all, I know that belonging to the Friends of Manito is a simple way to give back to the community due to their unflagging support for Spokane’s beloved park. And that’s why I’m a member.”
— Susan Mulvihill
“I love Manito Park because of the beauty that it provides for the Spokane Community. I have enjoyed visiting it since I was a student nurse at Deaconess Hospital in 1962. I brought my young children here as well as my grandchildren to view the ducks, (swans when they were here), playground equipment, flowers, conservatory, Spring rock wall, and Japanese Garden. My 20 year membership in the Friends of Manito has given me great pleasure and satisfaction to have helped contribute to the improvements in the Park.”
— Judy Demand
“Moving near Manito park from Colorado Springs and experiencing the sense of community that a walk through the park gave me, made me appreciate what a wonderful move we had made. Asking the park staff for advice about plants and then learning about TFM and becoming a member helped me become a great gardener. Now I enjoy passing my plant knowledge on to others.”
— Gabi Tilley
“I love Manito Park because my education, career and travels have all focused on landscapes and landscape design. Having been introduced to Manito Park about forty years ago, it remained in my mind as my career took me to Europe where I visited many famous gardens and parks. Manito Park easily holds its place among them. And, Manito Park exists not in Paris or London, but in a small city in Eastern Washington, something truly remarkable. This is why I am an active member of The Friends of Manito.”
— Robert Flowers
“I love Manito Park because I love flowers and gardening. When I retired, I couldn’t wait to join the Friends of Manito weekly planting sessions. I have been part of the planting group since 2011, and have also served on the TFM board. The money raised from TFM plant sales goes back to the park to finance many of the structures, and new garden areas in the park. It’s a great organization! I’m proud to say that I’m a TFM member.”
